Being a professional Headhunter for many years, we 'hunt' people according to a methodology and a targeting technique which I learned 20 years ago in London and have been using since. The tools have changed, the platforms, and many other things - but the methodology remained.
Throughout the years I shared my "Reversed Targeting" concept with some of the executives I met and were looking to create a change in their career.
With Coronavirus times unfortunately people all over the world will find themselves in need for actively looking for their next job.
Here is my way of 'how to do it':
* Treat your job hunt like you are a headhunter looking for a candidate - but vice versa.
* Define what you need - write down what are the key elements that are important to you - in the company's field, values, and other elements.
* Define what type of responsibilities you want to have.
* Search for the companies that may fit these criteria - company and position.
* You can look in Google, LinkedIn, Industry Mapping, and many other sources.
Here is where the method is specific for "Reversed Targeting" as we do not use that in Headhunting, due to confidentiality reasons:
* Even if the companies you targeted are not advertising a role - identify who you know that may be connected to this company.
* Try to get through via your contact to a decision maker that can consider you for a position.
* If you do not have any contacts in that company - identify who to approach and you can directly send them a message on LinkedIn.
While you may be approaching many companies - each one of these that will return to you - you know it is a place you want to work for - and - you only need one!
Hope this helps. Good luck. Leemor
